Box End Triathlon
7 September 2020 - By Bill Smythe
Anita Grainger travelled to Bedford to compete in the Box End Olympic Distance triathlon, arriving with the sunrise. The event was in the new time trial format setting each swimmer off at 30 second intervals in pre determined swim speed order. The swim is normally 1500m , 2 laps of the lake, however the event couldn’t manage this with the time trial format so the swim was cut to 750m.
The water temp is cooling down and it was a bit chilly but that didn’t stop Anita having a good swim although she did go slightly off course at the end initially sighting the run finish rather than the swim, loosing about 30 secs, whoops!
The bike course consisted of 2 undulating windy laps with traffic building up on the second lap and a few pot holes.
The run was a challenge being off road, undulating and what would be a nice cross country course if it wasn’t for the bike and swim first. Anita started well and then hung on in the run and was glad to have worn trail shoes even though it cost a bit of time in transition lacing them up.
All in all a good days racing for Anita, grateful to be able to compete.
