28 April 2025 - By Natalie Lilley

A big weekend for the club, with the TCS London marathon, and Manchester marathon taking place on the same day. The club was out in force to support in London, lining the streets with black & gold, and some incredibly loud encouragement for our runners.

The conditions were less than optimum, with surprisingly hot conditions for all of our runners this weekend. Cracking runs from everyone, and some incredible times and efforts, even if not everyone was able to hit their A goals due to the heat

Manchester Marathon

Some amazing times set here throughout the field, with Tyler, Dylan and Nadia all taking on the distance for the first time. Congrats to Nadia for smashing the 4 hour barrier on her first go!

TCS London Marathon

Cheered on by the WRC fan club, our runners had to dig deep. With temperatures around 22 degrees, PBs were hard to come by today, but Will Radley ground out a very well deserved PB of over 3 minutes. Heydon Mizon managed to bag yet another V50 record, giving him the full V50 set, and smashing the previous record by 17 minutes! Well done to everyone who ran – fantastic times all round.

The last word has to go to Gemma Thomas, whose training for her first marathon had gone well. She was looking steady up to around mile 20, when the heat suddenly took its toll physically. This lead to almost 2 hours in the medical tent, with a change of clothes, a vat of tea, and eventual sign-off from the medics to continue. Many would have given up at this point, but Gemma was racing for Sands charity, a cause very close to her heart, and was determined to finish, so she set off walking. With the support of family and friends, she finally crossed the line after a mammoth 9 hours from her start time – with a Garmin moving time of 7:10, including several miles of walking, this is an amazing demonstration of grit and determination. Well done Gemma – your club is very proud of you!
