September 2025 CMOTM

6 November 2025 - By Steven Alder

We had a lot of nominations for CMOTM for September 2025, but the winner is Ian Lucas! He was nominated for not only having a great run at the Great North Run – his 18th time of running it, but for also running his first ultra marathon- the Suffolk Coastal Ultra a week later whilst helping to pace his daughter! “Not bad for a 68-year-old!” – well done Ian!

Well done to all of our other nominees for September:

Steven Wherrett – Since joining WRC he has trained hard, overcome injuries and recently set amazing personal bests – Wez smashed another PB at The Great North Run, this time his half marathon, by a whopping 3 minutes in a time of 1:16:55 placing him an amazing 157th out of 60,000 runners.

Jemima Painter – Regularly turning up on both Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jemima has made a brilliant comeback from injury earlier this year. With some impressive Thursday night performances and a new half marathon PB of 1:48:20 at Warrington Running Festival, her hard work has paid off.

Owen Dare – For yet another club record and constantly improving his times. Owen ran and grabbed a superb triple crown of PB, County Gold and Club Record with a time of 1:21:10 at Pleshey HM.

Martin Saville – For his run at Copenhagen half and then his PB at Ingatestone 5.

Fiona Collins – For running the Berlin marathon after months off injured. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be on the day due to that scorching Berlin sun, but she did the race with a smile on her face and with a solid training block under her belt. There are good things to come!

Amy Eyo – For a very strong race and PB at Ingatestone 5, finishing in 37:12.

Claire Lucas – for completing the Suffolk Coastal Ultra after recovering from heel fractures earlier in the year. Required dedication to her training.

Ann Johnson – Annie has been absolutely smashing her running lately – consistent training, sticking to her plan and achieving successive 5k PBS and more recently achieving a PB at Ingatestone 5. Her dedication, positive attitude and determination to run stronger and faster are truly inspiring. Annie is a brilliant example of what can be achieved with hard work and perseverance.

Glen Waller – When the final call for volunteers for Essex Way Relay #5 went out, Wally jumped at the chance to catch a train to Kelvedon, walk three miles and stand at the busy A120 road crossing for two hours helping to keep runners safe. He then walked back another three miles to the railway station and caught the train home. This is what being a member of WRC is all about!

Ian Cuthbert – Ian raced at the inaugural Basildon Half and smashed his PB target by nearly 2 minutes with a time of 1:26:37 and followed that the following weekend at Ingatestone by knocking over a minute off his 5M PB time with a sub-32-minute run of 31:56.

Andrew Read – for taking on the role of co-ordinating and managing Leg 5 of the Essex way relay, and all that entailed, with enthusiasm and dedication.
