Pub runs are back!

The schedule for this summers pub runs is now complete. After 8 months of pounding the dark Witham streets each Tuesday evening it will be good to get back out into the country again.

It occurs to me that, since last summer, we have welcomed many new members who won’t yet have done a pub run so a few words on the subject may be appropriate. We continue to run in our usual groups and distances are much the same as well although those wishing to do shorter distances (less than 4.5 miles) may have to do an ‘out and back’ when no shorter circular route is available. After the run many of us stay on for food and/or drinks taking the advantage to socialise. The opportunity also arises for spouses and family members to attend. Whilst scenic and traffic free routes are, as far as possible chosen, extreme care must obviously be taken when running around the country lanes so be warned!

Many of the pubs we use do not have large car parks so car sharing is always encouraged. In some cases, such as next Tuesday’s run from The Willows in Cressing, it may be necessary to park on the street so please ensure that local residents are not inconvenienced – the good name of the club is at stake! If you don’t intend to stay after your run please don’t occupy a pub parking space which could be used for pub patrons – we very much depend upon the goodwill of our hosts! If you are staying (and it is hoped that you will) then please order and pay for your food before the run. This helps the pub staff and ensures that you will get your food on time!

Addendum from Marc – When I took over the chairmanship in February, I didn’t have to think too long about who would be the ideal person to coordinate the summer pub run schedule.
