It’s Gold!

23 March 2025 - By Will Radley

Witham RC secured a triumphant gold in both our men’s and our women’s teams today. Historic. And everyone played their part.

I love cross country—this season especially. It’s honest, relentless, gritty, and humbling. No matter where you placed or how you placed, we’re united in the grind—equal in effort, bonded by pain. Be proud of it. You’re part of a club that leaves no one behind.

Before the results, I want to thank Sian, Theresa and Mark for scoring and cheering us on right to the end. It was a huge help to me, and thank you to the Halstead team too who put on a great event.

TEAM RESULTS

Honestly, we didn’t think that our fabulous club could top our 3rd place finish last season, but this year we finish SECOND in the league!!! The icing on the cake of another excellent season.

Team results for today are below:

CROSS COUNTRY TROPHIES

The Peter Whittaker and Brian Wiley Trophies are awarded for the first male and female at the Halstead race in the NESS League. Will Radley and Sally Hoyle took those home today, coming in 1st and 3rd in their categories!

We also award Cross Country Championship trophies for the Male and Female runner who attend the most NESS cross countries fixtures and accumulate the least number of points.

We had 7 runners who attended all 4 NESS XC events this season:

  • Owen Dare
  • Celine Elson
  • Karen Flowers
  • David Jobling
  • Will Radley
  • Colin Short
  • Dean Whittaker

Most of you can probably therefore work out that the male winner of the Cross Country Trophy is Will Radley!

It was a much tighter run competition for the female trophy, with Celine being victorious on this occasion!

Well done all!

A massive thanks to all of our photograph takers, scorers, cheerers, and bakers this season as well – particularly those that stepped up to help in Jodee’s absence today. As always, it has been fabulous to see the black and gold lining the finishing straight.

Hang those spikes up until next season, but keep running those hills and practice running with your elbows out – there were only 2 points between us and the Harriers….
