Ekiden 2021 virtual rules

8 July 2021 - By Natalie Lilley

All 7 WRC teams are now registered – thanks for your inputs.  Please see below for full details regarding running & submission of results.

If you prefer the short version:

  1. Start and finish in the same place
  2. Run the correct distance in KMs!
  3. Don’t pause your watch!

Each team has 3 days to complete the challenge. All legs to be completed between 00:01 Friday 9th July to 6pm Sunday 11th July, with all results to be submitted (to Adam or Natalie) by 7pm on 11th July.

Runners are expected to record their run using some form of electronic device so that the performance can be validated (eg Strava/Garmin).
The run should, within small tolerances, start and finish at the same place to eliminate advantages from inclines or wind direction. The simplest form of this is an out and back route.
You may run on any surface, except treadmills!

Pick a route where you are unlikely to suffer from GPS interruption or skewed data. Any ‘strange’ results will be discounted by the organisers. Your device must register a minimum of the distance of the leg you have entered. The run has to be a single, continuous effort and the elapsed time used. Please do not pause your watch.

The results should be submitted to the team captains, preferably in a single post or message, showing each individual runner’s name, leg and time.

The organisers will NOT be asking for evidence for each runner.  However they will ask for evidence for the top 3 teams in each category.  For other teams they are likely to randomly select 1 runner from each and ask for proof of performance. If this is found to be invalid then that may result in disqualification for the entire team.

Please let us know if you have any questions. Good luck to all of our teams, and we look forward to receiving your results!

Nat & Adam
