parkrun – 05/09/2026

The 18 parkruns visited by Witham RC this week were Chelmsford Central, Lews Castle, Great Notley, Maldon Prom, Rothamsted Park, Thorney Bay Beach, Ferry Meadows, South Woodham Ferrers, Clacton Seafront, Harwich, Valentines, Hockley Woods, Mersea Island, Market Harborough, Walton Promenade, Brynaman and ARU Writtle – all in the UK this time!

Great Notley welcomed Simon Parsons (25:42), Keith Taylor (27:28), David Andrews (28:46) and Lysia Jiggins (34:54) whereas Maldon Prom had Dean Whittaker (22:14 1st VM45-49 and Barcode Scanner), Alan Cutler (25:23), Darren Ward (28:23) and Peter Banks (29:23). These were our most attended events.

Events attended by pairs of WRCers included Lews Castle with Tony Wallen (23:54) and Brigid Wallen (26:34), Harwich welcomed Angela Read (29:47) and Andrew Read (53:26), Mersea Island saw Karen Flowers (30:08) and John Flowers (32:03) whilst over in Wales at Brynaman had Daniel Griffiths (20:34) and Bethany Shippey (32:27).

Essex also saw Simon Gill (23:38) in Chelmsford Central, Giles Sowerby (18:53) in Thorney Bay Beach, Ross Silverton (33:21) at South Woodham Ferrers, Lee Tooey (21:11) at Clacton Seafront, James Attenborough (27:13) in Hockley Woods, Lisa Leader (26:05) at Walton Promenade and ARU Writtle had Ian Cuthbert (20:54). Whilst Ilford is now part of Greater London rather than Essex nowadays, we can throw Valentines parkrun in too, which was visited by Nicola Digby (32:48).

Steven Alder (31:16) went to Rothamsted Park to complete Hertfordshire (King/Queen of Herts) whilst over at Ferry Meadows was Karen Pickering (21:06) and Market Harborough was Sian Tate (26:35).

parkrun – International Tourism

Whilst parkrun can now be found in 22 countries (plus a few countries that no longer host parkrun), did you know the first parkrun that wasn’t parkrun UK was over in Copenhagen in May 2009? In 2011 it went to Australia and then Poland.
