July 2026 CMOTM

30 August 2026 - By Steven Alder

Well done to the CMOTM for July 2026 – Matt Jordan. On the performance side, Matt put in massive volume, running over 400km (250 miles). Over the month, he accumulated a staggering 10,800m of elevation. He also demonstrated amazing community spirit by driving to Wales specifically to pace a total stranger on a tough 40km Paddy Buckley Round leg. Matt showed exceptional sportsmanship and quick thinking during the 29km Pinnacle Ridge Race. While tackling 2,500m of climbing, he came across a fellow runner who had sustained a severe, bone-deep open wound. Matt immediately sacrificed his own race to administer critical medical treatment before she was evacuated to the hospital. Matt didn’t just represent our club this month; he represented the very best of humanity and mountain sportsmanship.

Well done to our other nominees for July 2026:

  • Gaz Arnold – Coming in the top 40 out of 1,500 at the Lakeland 50 – huge PB off the back of a very strong training schedule – fantastic work! He turns up regularly for runs even when he’s not actually training in that session.
  • Dawn Shilling – For her performance in the Harwich 5K series and achieving a parkrun milestone of 250 parkruns!
  • David Jobling (DJ) – For his Club Record and Gold Standard at the Great Bentley 5.
  • Giles Sowerby – Giles finished 7th overall at the Felsted 10k and at the Arthur Whiston 5 he ran a PB of 29:06, picking up an Essex County V45 Silver Medal. Giles is a long-time runner in black and gold and a much-appreciated supporter at events where he is spectating, many thanks & well done Giles!
  • Ian Cuthbert – For supporting a fellow Club Member at their first ever trail marathon; he ran with them continuously. Throughout the run, he was full of encouragement right to the finish line.
  • Karen Pickering – for breaking the 31 year WV40 5k record in the Maldon handicap series hitting 20:00 minutes.
  • Sally Hoyle – for County Silver and Gold Standard at the Arthur Wiston 5.
