parkrun – 02/05/2026

This week was a Bank Holiday weekend, but also the weekend of May Day 10! So where did our runners go this week? Quite a few locations! Well done for all those running at Maldon Prom, Hastings, Chelmsford Central, Moley Valley, Great Notley, Burgess, Milton Country, Hockley Woods, Walton Promenade, ARU Writtle, Foro Italico (Italy!), Sizewell, Colchester Castle and Thorney Bay Beach. Markshall wasn’t on this week.

Firstly, let’s welcome Essex’s brand new parkrun at Thorney Bay Beach in Canvey Island. Patrick spotted that their website went live on Friday evening, which inspired Shane Ketteridge to go join 242 other people where he ran in 29:50. Well done Shane! Overseas saw Ann celebrating her 40th wedding anniversary in Italy at Foro Italico, where she completed the course in 32:13 – congratulations! Dawn Shilling revisited Mole Valley and completed the tough course in 32:41. Leo Tooey was at Walton Promenade where his time was 21:41.

Over at the popular Maldon Prom parkrun we had Leo Cole (21:09), Dan Griffiths (22:14), Dean Whittaker (23:15), Stamatis Katsimis (23:43), Annalise Etherington (24:13), Vicki Riley (24:14), Mick Conroy (24:24), Liz Atkinson (27:16), Anita Grainger (28:30), Karen Flowers (29:37), Chrissy Israel-Jones (30:54), Ian Cuthbert (30:56), Sue Shippey (31:14), Lisa Leader (32:36), David Grainger (35:53), Nicola Digby (35:58) and Beth Shippey (36:18). Further away the Reads went to Sizewell where Angela completed the course in 31:40 and Andrew was the Barcode Scanner. Angela chose to get scanned by the other scanner rather than her husband. Jack Welch went to ARU Writtle where he did the course in 22:15.

Patrick Hinchliffe visited one of his regular venues at Colchester Castle (his 87th time), where he came in in 39:26, while Steven Alder unsurprisingly visited another new location, Burgess, completing the course in 29:02. Also at a new location were the Beazeleys, where Chris and Nichola managed 24:20 and 26:17 respectively at Hastings. Giles Sowerby was visiting Milton Country and did that in 21:13.

This week at Chelmsford Central we had Andrew Smith (19:50), Clive Smith (23:47), Kevin Harper (23:57), Adam Hocken (25:43 – his first time at Chelmsford Central) and Fiona Collins (33:00). Over at Great Notley there was Ian Lucas (26:41), Lysia Jiggins (31:41 & course PB), Mike Struthers (32:47 & 1st VM75-79) and Megan Wilson (49:07). Karen Pickering was at Hockley Woods where she grabbed 22:21.

parkrun Pacing at Maldon Prom & Future parkrun Tourism

James A has now confirmed in the Facebook group we will be pacing at Maldon Prom on the 30th May. At the time of this post, there are spaces for 21, 23, 31, 38, 40 and the Tail Walker. If you are interested, get in touch with James.

We are looking to organise another bit of parkrun tourism with Witham RC in Ely very soon, keep an eye out for a seperate post coming soon with more details.
