Results 19/7/26

20 July 2026 - By Natalie Lilley

Another busy weekend of racing, after a week off last week. Fortunately, the heatwave of the last couple of weeks relented a little, and it showed in some great performances!

Maldon 5k – Race 5

Another complex handicap system at this summer 5k series hosted by Tiptree RR. I don’t tend to get results submitted for this one, but we had a fairly special one this week.

Giles Sowerby ran an impressive net time of 18:26, putting him 2nd overall in race 5.

Karen Pickering finished in a net time of exactly 20:00, breaking the FV40 club record that’s stood since 1995 by 2 seconds. Amazing running, Karen!

Geoff Reddin finished in 23:56, and Andy White in 26:29.

Arthur Whiston 5 Mile

This was both a Club and County Champs race, so a good turnout, as expected. The race is held in memory of Arthur Whiston, a much-loved Colchester runner who made a lasting contribution to the local running community.

Well done to everyone who raced – we’ve got PBs, standards, age group podiums and County Medals! I haven’t actually seen the Essex results yet, so any County medals below are from your submissions (thank you!). I will verify/check the rest when they’re available.

Ridley Round

The Ridley Round is a narrative trail, hosted by ETE, of “around” 13 miles (actual distance around 14 miles!). Runners take in several pubs/checkpoints on the way and there are bonus points for pubs visited/drinks consumed (as ever, I can’t fathom what the system is!)

Name Time (without bonuses)
Karen Pickering 2:23:19
Angela Read 4:14:54
Shane Ketteridge 4:14:54
Ann Johnson 4:54:14
Kerry Townsend 4:54:14

Stow Maries Trail Challenge

Adam Regan went off in search of his July marathon in Stow Maries, for this lapped event hosted by Top Day. Targeting 8 laps for marathon distance, an unforeseen shift of start/finish meant that he actually completed just over 29 miles in 5:37:03.

Well done all!
