WRC Members Kick-Off the Multi-Sport Season at Notley Park

25 April 2017 - By James Montgomery

With the tempreture warming up (huh?) and spring about to transition in to summer, signifying the start of the multi-sport season, several WRC members took part in the annual Spring Duathlon at Notley Park comprising a 4kms run, a 20kms bike section and a final 4kms run within the country park and on the mainly quiet lanes around.

The conditions were good for a racing, although still a little chilly with some opting for additional attire, especially on the bike leg and a gentle breeze that would unusually help the riders along the busy A131 section and aid some good buike splits.

Scott was first out starting in the early wave in the male open category and first back having sliced through the wind to record an overall of 01:08:58, but only narrowly beating Trevor Johnson starting later in the in the vets category who recorded a terrific bike split to reduce his losses on the run. Next in was Alex Stuckey, still carrying the war wounds from MTB’ing earlier in the week and finishing strongly in 1:16:13. Liz was last of the WRC team to finsh, having been held up by a horse box driving slowly around the course and the mis-fortune of having to stop at a pedestrian crossing. The results are adjusted for the delay but don’t take into account the slowing down, starting off and the general annoyance factor – which was evident when she finished!

Well done guys, good start to the season!

James
