The Pearsons tackle The Blenheim Palace Triathlon
6 June 2016 - By James Montgomery
The triathlon season is now well under way and we have this season’s first WRC novice when both Mat and Rachel Pearsons took part in the Blenheim Palace triathlon.
The Blenheim Palace Triathlon is a great event, but better suited for those who are fundraising and wanting a family day out. The swim was great although the water was very cold only being 14 degrees!! As we got out of the water, there was a steep hill and a long way to get to T1!! Then the bike ride which consisted of 3 laps around the Palace grounds. It was an undulating ride just over 12 miles long on narrow tracks. This got congested in some areas, combined with sharp turns making it difficult to pass slower riders. The run was also undulating and 3.5 miles long. 2 laps around the lake made for a very scenic run indeed. Running towards the Palace entrance was truly special.
It was a very well organised triathlon, but probably not one for a PB unless you are lucky enough to get an early start. We were in wave 15 which was mixed, but very big!!
Although this was Mat’s first triathlon word has it, it might not be his last!!
Mat:
swim – 750mtrs : 22mins 37secs
Bike – 20Kms : 52mins 28secs
Run – 5.5kms : 33mins 17secs
Total Time: 2hrs 01min 57secs
Rachel:
swim – 750mtrs : 18mins 25secs
Bike – 20Kms : 42mins 42secs
Run – 5.5kms : 29mins 49secs
Total Time: 1hr 39mins 35secs
Well done to both Mat and Rachel.
James
