Cake on 15 October 2022! (after some XC Familiarisation Training)
7 October 2022 - By Jodee Mayer
So now we’ve got everyone’s attention…
Further to DJ’s recent post, with the first NESS XC League race coming up, more details here, starting this weekend the coaching team are putting on some familiarisation sessions so you can try out your footwear and practice off road running.
XC is for everyone (though do speak to your coach if you are on a training plan for an upcoming race) no matter experience, pace, or how much cake you want to eat or not eat! If you have any questions about XC do speak to the Captains, a coach, or any of the many XC loving members!
Session details
The first session will be this Saturday, 15 October:
Meet & Park: St Bartholomew’s Church car park, Church Road, Wickham Bishops, CM8 3LA.
Time: 9.00am: please arrive just before so we are ready to head off at 9 for a short warm up jog
Session Location: The nearby Orchards area on typical cross-country terrain
We’ll be running on public footpath areas within The Orchards, please be mindful and considerate of other footpath users.
The session will have some structure, and can be used as a training session, but it is about (re-)familiarising yourself with off road running, and perhaps trying out or dusting off your trail shoes, studs or spikes (though the ground may still be quite hard!). Road shoes should be fine, however, and recommended for the short run down, where you can then change your shoes should you wish.
Athletes will be able to run over varying and undulating cross country terrain at their own pace. There are flat, downhill and uphill sections.
Athletes will run at their own pace during the session, up to a total distance of around 5k for the main part of the session.
For those looking to record & review on Garmins (or other devices), it’s a session well suited for “the button”.
And CAKE? Afterwards for any takers we can head off to The Braxted Bakery (Homefield House, Witham Road, Little Braxted, CM8 3ET) – we’ve given them advanced warning that a few of us may head over around 10.15/30 so we are expected. If you think you might make the trip for some coffee and cake, if you could drop a message below or in FB that would be helpful.
Please sign up below. Karen and I look forward to meeting up with everyone on Saturday.
