WRC Trail Sundays!

21 March 2018 - By James Blackshaw

WRC are pleased to announce that we will be organising a series of trail runs over the spring and summer seasons.

The runs will be held once a month on Sunday mornings as an alternative, but not a replacement, to the long run from Morrison’s. Each run will be at a new location and will vary slightly in terms of distance and terrain. Some will be on a looped route, some will be out-and-back, and some may require some minor travel.

The pace of the run will be decided on the day, but in general they will be ‘social runs’ which are suitable for all abilities, so if you’re new to trail running or have never run trails before, then these are a great place to start. Furthermore, if you’re a faster runner and would like to go ahead of the main group, then we will be providing easy-to-follow written instructions of the route and GPX files to download onto your Garmin (if applicable).

The first trail run will be held on Sunday 15th April. Please see below for details.

The John Ray Trail Run – 15th of April

The John Ray Walk is a very scenic 9 mile route from Braintree to Witham, travelling through the Notleys, Cressing, Silver End & Rivenhall. It is approximately 90% on trail, and without any climbs or hills of any significance.

The plan is to meet at 9:00am at the ’50p Car Park’ in White Horse Lane (just opposite Morrison’s) and from there we will walk up to Witham Station to get the 9:25am train to Braintree Station (£4.60 for a ticket), and start the run along the John Ray from there. The route ends near to Witham Station, and we should arrive back there around 11:30am.

Depending on how the weather is over the next month or so, it may be that road shoes will be appropriate, but I’ll take a look at the route a week or so beforehand and advise nearer the time.

Obviously, please dress appropriately for the weather, and also bring any drinks and snacks you may wish to consume along the way.

There is a great website with history and maps of the route here, but if you’re going to stick with the main group, then you don’t need to worry about the navigation.

Look forward to seeing you there.

James

Will these trail runs be dog friendly? We’re not around for the first one unfortunately but would love to do some of the others.
