9th Essex Walker Marathon – 22nd April

8 March 2018 - By James Blackshaw

If you didn’t get into the London Marathon this year, but still fancy doing the distance on the day, then this Long Distance Walkers Association event may be right up your strasse.

Despite the name, the LDWA events are for both runners and walkers, and are well organised, with well stocked CPs, and a meal at the end, all for a very low price.

This event, the 9th Essex Walker, offers both 27 and 18 miles distances, and is part of the Essex & Herts Triple Challenge, along with the Blackwater Marathon and the Herts Hobble. The event starts in Heybridge, and navigation is by a route description which is available two weeks prior to the event.

The cost of the event is £12, which includes snacks and drinks at the start and at the CPs, and a meal at the end.

There are currently 57 walkers and 29 runners signed up, including myself, as I’m a glutton for this sort of thing…
