Winter 5K results

19 February 2016 - By Marc Underdown

The last of the winter 5K races was last night in chilly conditions. Firstly a huge thank you to Martyn and DJ for taking over the session, as standing out in the cold would not have done me any good. Many thanks also to all the people who helped out – Mr and Mrs Monty, Big Dave, Walls and Tracey.

I understand that the cold conditions made people run fast, and several PB’s were broken if not smashed. Great runs from our version of the ‘Brownlee brothers’ who took the 1-2, and also from David Hunt who broke the magic 20 min mark for the first time. I’m told that a couple of runners mastered the negative split approach by powering through on the second lap, including James Blackshaw who made up 4 places, and Hayley Ellen who made up 40 seconds on Vicky to pip her to be the second lady to finish.

Martyn pointed out to me that only two of the 17 runners have been members of the club for more than two years, which highlights the number of new runners we’ve welcomed in that period. The next opportunity for a club 5K will be the first track race on 8th April. Hopefully it will be a little warmer, and at least the track doesn’t have that ‘fun’ up and down over the old railway bridge!!!
