Results inc Essex Vets Cross Country Champs
28 November 2016 - By Marc Underdown
Whilst some were in Spain seemingly having a very good time from the pictures I’ve seen!, a few of us who are old enough stayed around and took part in the Essex vets cross country championships held at Writtle College.
After four junior races, the ladies vets race took place combined with the men’s super-vet categories . the ladies put in a strong showing with Vicky Hunt (25), Liz Stuckey (35), Angie Manley (48), Wendy Martin (49), Brigid Wallen (53), Rachel Pearsons (66) and Emma Sweeney (85) helping the ladies finish eighth out of 21 teams.
The supervet team also did well with Simon Scott (41) getting the better of Mark Austin (46), with Keith Taylor (80) and Geoff Reddin (103) helping the team to finish 11th of 20 teams.
After they had churned up parts of the course (particularly the cambered section around the big lake!) it was the turn of the V40 men. Heydon Mizon (24) was first back, followed by Leo Cole (37), Stuart Mills (51), Marc Underdown (61), and Tony Wallen (70). The team finished 12th out of 16 teams.
Thanks to Brigid for organising. It was great for us to have teams in each of the categories showing how much we love cross country(?!)
Elsewhere Dave Campbell took part in the Hatfield 5 mile race. Although he was targeting a sub 30 min time, things didn’t quite go his way as he finished in 31:57.
