London Triathlon Results
8 August 2022 - By Anita Grainger
5 WRC members took part in the London triathlon on Sunday based at the Excel Centre.
The swim is in the Royal Victoria Docks with the bike going along some of the London marathon route to Westminster for the Olympic distance and over to Billingsgate for the sprint distance & the run is along the side of the dock nice and flat however very exposed to the sun.
First off was Alex in the mens qualifier wave with Liz and Anita 10mins behind in the ladies qualifier wave. Katie Layley , took on her first Olympic distance triathlon and was in the wave 30mins behind. Rounding up the WRC members was Angela Wray who took park in the Sprint relay triathlon in the afternoon doing the swim and bike sections.
The swim was refreshing in the heat, both Anita and Liz had good swims with Anita getting into a couple of small bundles, transitions were quite long and Liz caught Anita on the bike mount line where Anita couldn’t get clipped in & was faffing. Katie enjoyed the swim & looks like Angela had a good swim too. Not forgetting Alex who put in a decent swim.
The east end of the bike course was technical, with some unforgiving sleeping policemen that claimed part of Liz’s drinks bottle so she got splashed for most of the ride. A lady crashed right in front of Liz after which Liz rode cautiously. Anita is getting more used to the TT bike and picking up speed nicely, although wasn’t impressed when a member of the public walked out in front of her whilst on their phone as she was speeding along Lower Thames street. Katie enjoyed the bike course . Angela had to contend with wind and people on the course in the afternoon.
The run was really hot with little shade except for the end of each lap through the excel centre. Alex and Liz held it together albeit a lot slower than usual and Anita ended up walking sections and tripped over a cone toward the end of the 1st lap nearly ending the run early. Katie found the run tough and pulled a muscle, ouch!
Angela supported her teammate on the final run lap.
