Ipswich 53-12 Cross Country Results – WRC Holds 3rd Place…. Now the Fight to Avoid Relegation Begins!

22 January 2017 - By Anita Grainger

On a beautiful cold crisp sunny day 29 WRC members took part in the fourth fixture of the league. The race is held in the grounds of the Suffolk Hall and consists of an opening section of 0.5 kms, then 2 identical loops of 2.1kms which go under the Orwell bridge followed by and an uphill drag and then a section of 3.2kms to the finish. The ground was very hard underfoot with the muddy uneven sections better known as ‘ankle breakers’ keeping us on our toes. Luckily nobody took this literally!

Both Ladies and Mens teams finished 5th out of 6 missing a few key runners. However we have managed to hold onto our 3rd place which is fantastic and we should all be proud of ourselves..

Next week is the penultimate league fixture begin hosted by Springfield striders at Writtle college.

We need to see a good turn out next week  to hold our place as the teams below us in the league are likely to put up a fight to avoid relegation.

As an example Harwich ladies put out a stronger side today with all 4 scoring ladies coming in the top 30, in previous league fixture this has not been the case & Harwich are directly below us in the league!

Today was our lowest turnout for the league, let’s keep it that way!!

Now onto the maths part… although only the attacking part of the team score; first 4 ladies and 8 men score  here are more examples of how the midfield and defence part of the team (non-scoring runners) can affect placings; In the ladies 6 of our ladies came in front of Springfield Striders 2ndrunner and Colchester Harriers 4th runner & 7 of our ladies came in front of Springfield Striders 3rd runner

Thanks to Hayley Ellen, Tracey Denby & Phil Cherry for supplying cakes,  James Kennerley for photography and clipboard skills & to Clare Beckerleg and James Kennerley for their support during the race
