Hylands Hobble

14 November 2016 - By Marc Underdown

Eight members of the club fancied a bit of trail running yesterday to run in the popular Hylands Hobble. Every year the course changes and this year it came in at 13.4 miles. After registering we all collected our narrative instructions of the route, and with only two checkpoints on the course, it was necessary to pay close attention to the notes. By the end I think we had mastered the coded instructions which is almost a language in itself!

The dry summer and autumn led to most of the route still being firm but the constant rain of Saturday caused a few puddles as well as growing taller on the ploughed field crossings!

Myself, Tony Wallen, Alex Stuckey, and Phil Cherry all ran it together and we came in around 2h18m. James Montgomery had set off a bit earlier and we picked him up in the last few miles as he finished in about 2h28m, a similar time as Brigid Wallen also ran. Dawn Shilling and Becky Grimwood also ran it together and got back in 2h55m.
