Eton Dorney Sprint Triathlon
15 May 2023 - By Anita Grainger
Anita headed to Dorney lake for a nice season opener to the triathlon season at Eton Dorney Sprints, located where the 2012 Olympic rowing was held.
Anita was in the 2nd wave to start F40-54 at 8.50am with each wave being 20 mins apart……nicely spaced out and also sensibly organised in the rransition area with consecutive waves being placed in completely different sections of the transition area.
The swim was a mass start and Anita opted for the lefthand side away from chaos which paid off with a pretty stress free swim without the usual punch up she seems to attract. The water was clear and refreshing at 15 degrees. Swim time wasn’t her best but not too shabby.
The bike (4 laps) was draft legal, a first for Anita, and after a successful scoot mount debut (hurrah) Anita soon caught riders from the previous wave and formed a group and spent the ride in various groups as ladies joined or left the course.
Then onto T2 (transition) where Anita had an absolute mare trying to get her trainers on with frozen feet that were still cold from the swim. She struggled to get her feet in and bent her left little toe out on the inside of the trainer lining. After a few choice words and putting her trainer on again she finally set off on the run after nearly 4mins!
Anita was pleased with her run, having rolled her ankle 3 weeks ago, no issues were experienced, feeling good with a pretty reasonable time.
All in all a good start to the season. Times below:

Swim (750m) 15.09
Bike (21.2km) 40.10
