Chester Ultra

26 March 2017 - By Brigid Wallen

Paul was keen to correct me when we spoke about the Chester 50 miler – it was the Chester 52! However, it soon became the Chester 50.5 when the organiser announced there were 7 bulls in one of the fields so that part of the course was to be removed. A wise move.

The Chester Ultra is 50+ miles of trails following the River Dee, Marches Way and on through the heart of Chester onto the Shropshire Canal, the North and Mid Cheshire Way, taking in some of the very best of the beautiful Sandstone Trail via Helsby Hill, Frodsham, Delamere Forest and then rejoining the Shropshire Canal to the finish on the outskirts of Chester.

Anyone who has run alongside Paul over the past few months will know just what a running machine he is. Back to back long runs at the weekend, catching the 5.38 out of Witham on a weekday to fit in ‘a quick 18 miler before work’ or running at anyone’s pace just to get in a few extra miles.

Paul was 21st overall and 18th male finisher – fantastic running. While he isn’t sure of his official time yet, he reckons it was around 9 hours as he had to stop to help a couple of people who were thrown from their horses. Strava says 8.14 so that must be true…..

Congratulations Paul, you are amazing. Now why not treat yourself to a club 5k !!!
