Box End Sprint Triathlon ITU Worlds Qualifier

4 September 2022 - By Anita Grainger

Anita set off at 4.30am on Sat morning to Bedford to take part in the worlds sprint qualifier event set at Box End water sports lake…. A nice early start to the day! Having only done one sprint distance before, she thought it would make a nice change.

The ladies wave started at 7.40am.
The swim was a bundle and like being in a washing machine with 200 ladies vying for a small space of water. Anita held her own giving as good as she got but was disappointed with her swim time being about 3 mins slower than anticipated.

The bike course was relatively flat with a couple of short sharp climbs and some nice rolling sections. Anita is getting more used to being on the TT bike and put in a reasonable time.

The run course is off-road and reminded Anita of cross country and the orchards session. It started along the side of the lake and then headed off for some ‘undulating’ parts. Anita had a much better experience on the run than at London Tri recently, although a few minutes slower than expected.

All in all, a good triathlon, nicely organised by ATW. The finish time was slower than planned and not quick enough to qualify this time. There will be others 🙂
