2022 John Roberts Summer 5k Series – Race 1 – Final runner instructions & marshall positions
3 May 2022 - By Elizabeth Prior
This Thursday (5th May) we welcome to the first of four races in the 2022 John Roberts Summer 5k Series!
Please note that race three has been moved to 30th June to avoid a clash with the Springfield 5, the dates are available in the original post.
Race HQ is The Angel pub in Kelvedon (CO5 9AN). There is parking available at the pub, if it’s full once you arrive you can park on the surrounding roads. Registration for runners is between 6:45 and 7:15pm, with a 10-minute walk / 5-minute warm-up jog to the start line for a 7:30 start. The course map is below, and every turn will be marshalled so please listen to them.
If you wish to stay for food afterwards, you’ll need to order before the race starts. The Angel is under new ownership, and they’ve apparently spent £400k on improvements so members will notice a big difference. Here is a link to their new menu.
You will be pleased to know that we have managed to secure race licences for all four races, meaning the results will be entered on Power Of 10.
Firstly, thank you so much for giving up your time, these races really couldn’t run without you so it is greatly appreciated.
- Steven Adler
- Tom Warman
- Sarah Naughton
Please arrive at DJs house (I’ll send his address privately) at 5:45pm where you will gather up the signs, cable ties etc then work your way round the course putting the signs up. DJ will lead this group.
Registration and Start/Finish timing:

- David Grainger
- Liz Prior
Please arrive at the Angel for 6:40pm where you will register runners before the race. You’ll walk to the start with the runners to start the clock when they set off, then head back to the finish to mark them as they cross the line, noting their time. I’ll lead this group.
- Clive Smith (point A)
- Celine Elson (point A)
- Mark Austin (point B)
- Lysia Jiggins (point B)
- Ann Johnson (point C)
- James Montgomery (point C)
- Pete Banks (point D)
- Simon Scott (point D)
Please ensure you are out on the course, in your position before 7:30pm. I have ensured there is an experienced marshal at each point who will know where the marshal point is and where you can park (no cars needed for point D). Please arrange to car share to the marshal point between yourselves.
Give me a shout if there are any questions. See you on Thursday!
Your team captains,
Ben & Liz
