Scott Darney and James Kennerley took part in the Gosfield Tri on Sunday, based at Gosfield Lake.

Having never swum in Gosfield Lake before and having heard many horror stories, Scott was pleased with his swim time shaving 5 minutes off his previous 1500m swim time. On to the bike, he was starting to feel the after effects of haiving run in Saturday’s Parkrun and found the 40km very hard going, especially in a strengthening wind.  The run is a nice flat(ish) part-pavement / part-trail run but was equally as hard going on already tired legs, finishing in 27th place overall.

Splits:
Scott
Swim –      27:13
Bike –    1:16:52
Run –       43:44

Overall:  2:30:07

James Kennerley:
Swim –      27:29
Bike –    1:20:42
Run –       57:22

Overall:  2:48:30

On Sunday, taking advantage of our recent affliation to Cycling Time Trials, Trevor Johnson rode in the Southend Wheelers 50 miles time trail which was held on the Dengie peninsular between Steeple- Latchingdon and Bradwell-on-Sea. Apart from a traditional early start at 7.07am, conditions were good with sunshine and only a bit of wind. Trevcor reports that he started too fast and found it hard to keep the pace going in the later stages. Trevor managed a 20 mph plus ride to finish in a time of 2 hrs 23 mins 43 sec but thinks he would have been a bit faster but lost 3 – 4 minutes after a bit of confusion over the course.
