Weekend Race Report – VLM

Was it the Greeks who invented the “Epic”? Tales that always would include great struggles, disappointment for some and amazing feats by others?

Fast forward 3000’ish years and today’s hot, hot, hot VLM would have provided plenty of material to match Jason and his merry band of Astronauts any day!!

Two club records were broken today! Rachel Sweatt, running her first Marathon, came home in 39^th place with a time of 3hrs & 34secs to break a club record that has stood for 25 years! Hot on her heels was Owen Dare, breaking John Roberts 26 year old record in a time of 3hrs, 8min and 39secs!! Outstanding both.

For some there was disappointment and struggle today in the sweltering heat, and for others it was their first marathon experience. There have been struggles with illness & injury, long hours of training in the cold, not forgetting Mark & Emma Austin’s “epic” 3hour treadmill run to avoid the ice and snow!!
