Southend Half and Felsted 10k report

11 July 2017 - By Steve Hennings

Sunday saw two regular races in the WRC calendar, but perhaps the hot & humid weather along with the close proximity to the Great Bentley 5 on Friday night kept overall club numbers down.

The Southend Half Marathon was a club champs race, but only 3 club members raced in the sticky conditions. Giles Sowerby continues to channel Forrest Gump and just keep on running – despite having just completed 4 back to back marathons just a week or so ago he was back out there!!

50 Giles Sowerby 01:28:17 MSEN

1312 Haydeh Safavi 02:18:18 F50

Also on Sunday was the Felsted 10k – described by some as a possible PB course, personally I’ve always found it hot, sticky and hellish – this year was no exception but the humidity was thankfully a little lower.

Following on from his recent Silver Medal at the county 10k, Mark Austin managed to trim another minute off his time of last year to come in 2nd place in his age category again. Angela Manley also put in a great effort on her road to running recovery, also posting a great 2nd place for her age group. The rest us? We were just glad when it was over, but we did get a nice mug!!
