Pub runs – The Compasses, Pattiswick
29 June 2016 - By Stewart Waller
Ironic that the pub with the largest car park, The Compasses at Pattiswick, witnessed the lowest turnout so far this summer. Holidays, inclement weather, injuries and recoveries from weekend events all no doubt contributed to the attendance at a venue that was new to us although 26 stayed on for food so not too bad. I do, however, believe that the route was well received. Not an easy one, being somewhat undulating in parts, but quiet and scenic and I have been asked if we are doing it again. Sadly not this year but definitely one to watch for the future. Having said that it is an excellent location for trail runs so who knows? Watch this space!
Another large car park (enter via Daisy Meadow) awaits you next Tuesday when we will be meeting outside The Ship PH at Heybridge Basin (CM9 4RX). The chairman will be posting the route/s but several options are available including an ‘out and back’ in either direction along the sea wall.
A little tip however. It is a location not without its insects on sunny evenings (and we are due one!) so yellow tops are not the choicest fashion accessory.
Depending upon the state of the tide it is, however, good for a spot of ornithology!
See you there.

I hope the hairy caterpillars have vacated the basin now?
