NESS XC Intra-Club Champs
21 September 2023 - By Jodee Mayer
This is a FUN intra-club competition FOR ALL MEMBERS and FOR ALL ABILITIES to get involved in the NESS XC season.
Members will be put into teams which will include a spread of abilities, meaning ALL RUNNERS ARE IMPORTANT!
Everyone will then compete in the NESS XC races over the season and earn points based on finishing position.
Who is it for?
Everyone! This is purely for fun and every runner who enters will play a pivotal role for their team.
All abilities are encouraged to enter, regardless of your competitive nature and/or running experience. If you need any additional motivation, there is always plenty of banter and lots of cake during the XC season!
How are the points awarded?
Once you cross the line, you will be allocated a WRC Team finishing position based on the order you come in amongst the other WRC runners. This position is also the number of points you earn for your team, therefore, the lower your position (eg 1st), the lower your point score (eg 1 point). The aim is to get the lowest number of points as a team at each race.
When and where are the races?
All runners to take part in as much of the NESS XC season as possible:
- 29 October – Springfield Striders at Writtle
- 26 November – Halstead at Gosfield School
- 10 December – Gt Bentley at Hilly Fields
- 21 January – Harwich
- 18 February – Hadleigh
What happens if I can’t run in all races?
If you are unable to make a race, you will earn the maximum number of points +1 for that one.
As with last year, if you miss more than 2 fixtures (i.e, more than half) we will remove you from your team to ensure that this doesn’t skew the results.
How do I know who is in my team?
Once everyone has entered, teams will be arranged and published on the website.
What if I don’t want to be in a team but still want to do the XC races?
This is absolutely fine. All WRC members are welcome and encouraged to take part in the XC races, even if if you don’t want to sign up for the Intra-Club Championship.
How do I take part?
If you would like to be part of this fun competition, please enter your name and your “current” 5k PB time below (perhaps your “season’s best” would be appropriate here). You will then be notified which team you’ve been put into before the first XC race.
Deadline to enter: Wednesday 11 October
If you have any questions, just ask!
