John Roberts 5k Series 2023 Race 1-Final Runner & Marshal Instructions

2 May 2023 - By Annalise Tye

This Thursday, not only is it Star Wars day (May the 4th be with you), but the 1st of our 4 John Roberts 5k Series races!

A friendly reminder that the handicap finale has been moved to 13th July, mark those calendars now, see General Info post for details.

For our Runners

The location is The Angel in Kelvedon, CO5 9AN. There is parking available, but if you are able to car share then it’s appreciated (and good for the planet). There are also roads you can park (sensibly) on once the car  park gets full. Registration will be 6:45-7:15pmto allow for 5 minute jog/10 minute walk to the start line for 7:30pm. Scroll down for the course map, with every junction being marshaled. It is an open road course, so be mindful of cars and listen to your marshals.

Please note that to be able to run in the grand handicap finale (and thus win the series), runners will need to participate in 2 out of the 3 qualifying races.

Pre-order any food before the race starts. This link may be to the most recent menu, but as The Angel is once again under new ownership, the menu may not be up to date, however, for this reason it would be great to put in a good WRC support, so we can continue coming back!

For our Volunteers

First of all thanks! The time that people give up to make these races happen is always appreciated!

Course set-up:

  • Steven Alder
  • Ben O’Leary
  • Celine Elson

Please arrive at the Angel by 6pm when you will meet Jodee and you will be provided with everything you need (hopefully). Any questions ask Steven and/or Ben.

Registration and start/finish timing:

  • Rachel O’Leary
  • Annalise Tye
  • Jodee Mayer

Please get to the Angel for 6:40pm to register runners before the race and set up the club flags. We’ll walk to the start to set runners off, then mark them back across the finish line, including times. Annalise and Jodee will be helping with this.

Set-up and registration volunteers can also participate in the race.

Course marshals:

  • Karen Flowers (marshal A)
  • Ann Johnson (marshal A)
  • Monty (marshal B)
  • Theresa Montgomery (marshal B)
  • Natalie Lilley (marshal C)
  • Christine Israel-Jones (marshal C)
  • James Attenborough (marshal D)
  • Colesy (marshal D)
  • Anita Grainger (marshal E)
  • Mark Austin (marshal E)
  • Dean Whittaker (marshal F)
  • Peter Banks (marshal F)

Meet first at Race HQ to pick up a high-vis vest and wire cutters between 6:45-7:15pm. Please get onto your course position before 7:30pm (as you’ll trip over the runners otherwise). There should be an experienced marshal at each point, to ensure you’re at the correct location, and where you park. Please car share to get to and from your marshal point. The task is to direct runners around the course, warn for cars and collect signs and bring back to Race HQ after the last runner.

Any questions please let us know!

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday.

Annalise & Jodee
