Foodbank Run – 7th Feb – The Ship, Tiptree

6 February 2023 - By Rachel O'Leary

Groups of runners across the UK are participating in a Food Bank Run this February and WRC are doing their part.

It’s a simple initiative; organise a run with your club runners, groups runners or your own running buddies, run to your local food bank and fill it up. The aim is to get every running club in the UK to do this during the month of February 2023. Some links for more info: Food Bank Run  and  Runr Food Bank Run

On the 7th Feb we will meet at The Ship in Tiptree from 6.45pm ready to set off at 7pm. We will run 0.7miles to Tiptree Community Fridge to drop off our donations and then finish the run round Tiptree back to The Ship.

We will provide a list of desired donations a week before. Tiptree Community Fridge is a great cause established to help all of the community including surrounding villages. It is not means tested and encourages all residents to visit and reduce food waste. They are especially keen to help families and the elderly who are finding mounting food costs a strain. They work with local food suppliers to salvage food that is within use by date for our community fridge and also to accumulate food in a freezer for distribution where it can be stored beyond that date.  https://www.facebook.com/TiptreeCommunityFridge for more information

For those who are staying for food after please ensure you order ahead of your run. Whilst The Ship has a car park, please car share where possible!

Please ensure high viz is worn and also Head/Chest Torches as some of the route is darker than we’re used to in Witham.

The route comes in at 4.8 miles long, so for those who want to round up, please either do so in a warm up or carry on up West End Road and do a turn back at the second lamppost to make it 5 miles.
