BD5 Roundup and Thank yous

26 December 2015 - By Claire Blake

Well, our 31st BD5 has been a great success. The course was pretty dry by race time and even the sun came out for us – the only hinderance was a fairly strong wind! Paul Whittaker from Southend AC came in first again this year with a marginally slower time than last year of 24:49.15 leaving the course record he set last year safe by a whole 49 seconds!

I would just like to say… a Big, Big, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you… to every one who helped and marshalled at the Boxing Day 5 this year. Without all of you this race could not take place and would not have been the success that it was.

In particular I would like to thank Tracey Denby who took on the role of Chief Marshall this year and did a fantastic job organising all of the marshals and helpers.

And whilst just about everyone deserves a mention, I also wanted to thank Tony Wallen and his set up crew for getting up so early and laying out the course and Liz & Brigid who also arrive so early for entries and numbers.

You’ll be please to hear that the race was a great success with just short of 400 entries, which considering we were up against all the Parkruns, I think is a fantastic number. Please do take a look at the BD5 Facebook page, as we get lots of feedback and praise from the runners. I’ve had numerous emails and messages to thank us for such a great race, well run and with lots of helpful, happy marshalls already!

We also had a great turnout of our own Witham runners this year and I would like to congratulate Colin Short on his M65 winners trophy! Full results below:
