Annabelle Reed trophy
17 July 2017 - By Marc Underdown
At the Ekiden relay race yesterday, I was delighted that Steve McMahon (Annabelle’s partner) was able to come along to award the Annabelle Reed trophy for the first time.
Annabelle loved the team events and was always willing to join a team, even stepping in at short notice when required. The picture of her that we held on our website after she passed away was taken at Ekiden just last year. When the committee decided to award a trophy in Annabelle’s memory, it was an easy decision to link it to the Ekiden relays.
We decided to not impose any strict criteria on how it would be won. Myself and the two captain’s Anita and Bill sat down to decide the winner. There were so many good performances all round, but it was Lee Blake who stood out for us. Despite being under the weather, he didn’t shirk away from taking on a 10k leg in what were very hot conditions. All things considered he put in a great performance, and we felt his efforts matched the spirit with which Annabelle approached running.
Congratulations to Lee on winning the trophy.
