Alton Water – Flasks, Mince Pies, Paper Serviettes, First Aid, Labradors and Delilah’s

20 December 2015 - By Martyn Byford

A fantastic turn out for our annual trip to AW for a one or two lap or how ever many miles you wanted to run on a day with the thermometer hitting 14 degrees and shorts and singlet’s the order of the day.

Once the chosen distances had been completed, largely but not completely injury free, the 22 of us enjoyed coffee and Christmas fayre on the outside wooden benches due to the Café being closed.

On the run unfortunately James tweaked a hamstring and wisely retired after one lap, David H aggravated a back issue and Shelley took a tumble but fortunately after first aid from Sue and Brigid was fine (The Chairman will be pleased to hear that there will be no litigation). That was all apart from Penny being jumped on by a Labrador with a bruise on the thigh the only tangible mark.

Half our number then decamped to Delilah’s café in Manningtree for full English breakfast which due to the speed of service nearly doubled up as high tea! That said once it arrived the quality was good.

Overall a good day out over a tough but very pleasant traffic free course, many thanks to all those who came along.
