A New Membership Year Begins!

31 March 2022 - By James Attenborough

Our next membership year Apr 2022 – March 2023 is now available for renewal/re-joining.

Let me first thank all of you who have contributed to the club over the last two COVID affected years!

We have seen many of you participate over the last two years in “Pub Bingo”, a socially distanced championship and a virtual quiz amongst various other activities. Indeed the membership of the club has grown over the last two years, it’s so good to see so many new faces joining the club and contributing to the WRC family.

As a result of this we have been able to keep membership prices at the same level as they were pre COVID. The optional (tick the box if you don’t want it) England Athletics licence which gives you discount off various race entries and also entry into the club’s own London Marathon Ballot (see our constitution for further details) has increased by £1 to £16 per runner.

It’s been lovely to see so many of you keeping up and many of you improving on your running over the last two years! We hope you enjoyed last year’s summer pub runs! This year we are back with a full schedule!

Recognising the hybrid nature of most of your jobs now, an earlier 7pm start time on Tuesdays has meant the pub run season can now start earlier in April and finish later in September. You’ll note some old and new names in there. As with last year we will also offer trail options where we can…over to our trail masters for those routes!

If you haven’t run with us for a while for whatever reason or, as happens to some that you have lost your mojo for running a little…all I can say is that WRC will always be there for you if you would like to come back along. There will always be friendly and familiar faces to greet you every Tuesday and Thursday, just come along once and you may again find that love for your trainers with WRC.

Our new committee was appointed at the AGM at the beginning of this month and I write as the new Membership Secretary taking on the baton from Karen Flowers.  Thank you to Karen for running the membership so smoothly during her tenure.

You will need to login to the website to renew/rejoin.

The memberships available are as follows:

– Individual training: Standard membership for any individual £30 (£46 Inc EA licence)

– Family membership: for those members who live at the same address: £50 (plus any EA licences)

– Non Training: This is for example those of you who don’t run on any club nights/have moved away but still want to race for us at NESS or other races in our club colours, or simply those of you who no longer run but want to continue to contribute to the club: £15 (£31 Inc EA licence).

– Student: This is for those who are over 18 and in full time education: £15 (plus opt £16 EA licence)

-Over 65’s: Self explanatory: £10 (plus opt £16 EA Licence)

If when you go to renew/rejoin and the website doesn’t give you one of the above prices, please don’t proceed and please let myself or Jason Lilley know as we occasionally come across an errant transaction or two!

What does your membership fee “buy”? Here are just a few of the benefits:

  • Trained coaches who lead your Thursday night speed development sessions
  • Entry into Cross country races with the NESS and Essex Leagues. (worth £15 just for five NESS races alone!)
  • Entry into team events such as Ekiden, the Essex Way relay and the Essex Road Relays
  • A warm place to meet on a Tuesday night in the winter months.
  • Access to our online “shop” to buy a subsidised WRC race vest/t-shirt and training tops/hoodies and bobble hats.

Many thanks again for your continued support
