brigid writes "Mepal Outdoor Centre, a few miles from Ely, was the setting for the Cambridge triathlon yesterday.
Although known for being flat, the wind can blow over the fens which was the case for triathletes yesterday.
The 1.5k swim in the clear lake was followed by a 40k bike then a 10k run around farm tracks which, due to the rain, made it an energy sapping final leg.
Well done to Stuart Mills who finished in 2:21.38 and to Tony Wallen who finished in a pb time of 2:40.34"

cherry writes "Cherry Lewis-Taylor also completed her first Olympic Distance triathlon over the weekend in a time of 3hrs 33 mins."

mediumt writes " Dave Jobling took part in the Olympic distance triathlon, held at the Excel Centre in London today. This involves a 1500m swim in the docks, a 38k bike loop to Tower Bridge and back and a 10k run around the centre.
Dave completed his event in 2 hours, 50 minutes and 1 second with splits of 32:57 for the swim, 1:12:18 for the bike and 59:00 for the run which placed him 34th in his age group.
Well done DJ."

mediumt writes " Congratulations to Jon Booty and James Montgomery who have both completed the Outlaw Long Distance Triathlon today.
The distances are the same as for an Ironman - 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run.
Jon was first home for Witham in a total time of 12 hours, 53 minutes and 4 seconds with splits of 1:06:13 for the swim, 6:26:39 for the bike and 4:57:22 for the run.
James was completing in his 2nd long distance event of the year (3rd if you count his relay!) and finished in 13 hours, 49 minutes and 18 seconds. James' splits were 1:30:09 for the swim, 6:36:02 for the bike and 5:12:08 for the run.
Hopefully we will get a full race report soon.
Well done to you both."

lorraine writes "Theresa sent a report on her and James' exploits in the Roth Challenge in Germany last week and I've finally managed to post it for everybody to read!
A Painful Journey not to be repeated! Not really much of a report, the day stated at around 3.30am and I had to get James and a few pirates to T1 by 4.50 as the roads were being closed, and I needed to be at T2 and park the car. The ironman distance started in waves, the relay teams were in the last wave at 8.45am, so our swimmer was off and completed the swim in 1hr 07mins (2.4miles) apparently this is a bit slow for him but he handed over the timing chip to James. He set off on the bike which was two 90km laps of a very undulating course, after hanging around for about 5 hours just sitting with his bike as there was nowhere else for the relay teams to wait he wasn’t exactly up for bike leg, he found it hard going on the first lap as he had an "I really can’t be bothered with this" attitude after all the hanging round. Things seemed to improve on the second lap and he got round in 6hrs 23mins for the 112 miles. I saw James come into T2 looking quite fresh - slightly different to the other relay bikers who were coming in and collapsing in heaps - and as per norm was all smiley face.
This is when it went downhill. The run started ok the route was up one side of the canal and back and over to the other side up and back not the most interesting route and not many spectators either, as logistics for getting around was very difficult. Everything was going smoothly but I soon discovered that Hi 5 gels and bars were evil so that was a bit of a problem. There was plenty of other food around but by then I couldn’t really face that either. I carried on plodding and I think about ½ way round my leg started cramping and from then on it was shuffle and a bit of walking; all the time checking the watch as we were on a time limit to complete or be removed from the course within 13hrs 45mins – not an option when everyone else has done their bit and cannot get a medal unless I finish. Bit of a bugger that one.
Within the last 500 metres James and John (our swimmer) were waiting for me so that we could all run in together, James let me know I had 5 mins before cut-off. Not sure how as it was painful but we managed to run like hell and get there with Chrissie Wellington waiting to present us with our medals (pic should be in the gallery soon).
Overall Time 13hrs 45mins (swim - 1:07; bike - 6;23; run - 6:15) "

lorraine writes "Over the weekend, Harwich was the venue for a couple of triathlons. Here's the race report from chairman Tony:
Saturday was the sprint distance race with 300m swim, 24k bike and 5k run. It was hot but with a steady breeze off the coast. Due a problem with the timing equipment, they were unable to provide splits but Trevor Johnson, in his first of three triathlons in three weeks, finished in 1:09:59. Brigid, in her first sprint distance triathlon, finished in 1:29:11.
Sunday was the turn of the Olympic distance race, with a longer 1650m sea swim, a 42k bike and a 10k run. The breeze had died down and the sun was even hotter – my thermometer measured 94f and there was no shade! 1st in for Witham was Tony in 2:52:13 (40:47 / 1:23:29 / 47:57) and Alex Stuckey, in his first Olympic race, finished in 3:16:48 (42:45 / 1:42:59 / 51.04). Dave Jobling completed the swim and the cycle but had to pull out before the run as he had to dash to the airport to cash a fight to Beijing.
Other WRC members were Stuart Mills (2:36:11), Wendy Martin (2:37:58) and Joolz Halpin (3:09:26)for Born2Tri and Tom Duhrsen (2:43:23) for Blackwater Tri.
Following last weekend’s Dambuster tri at Rutland Water, Wendy has qualified for the ITU Age Group World Championships in Budapest in September."

BRAINTREE & DISTRICT TRIATHLON
|
|
mediumt writes "Only 4 members of Witham Running Club managed to get their entries in in time for the ever popular Braintree & District Triathlon, organised by local tri specialists Born2Tri. This was the 3rd year the event was based at Halstead Leisure Centre with the 400m swim taking place in the modern pool ander the watchful scrutiny of our own Wendy Martin & Stuart Mills. The 13 mile bike course took competitors out to Earls Colne and Pebmarsh before a fast return to Halstead along the A131. The 5k run route was a two lap affair through the local housing estate and then out onto green fields and back into the housing estate to return to the centre. Chip timing and slick organisation has made it even easier to compare times. The WRC contingent's times are as follows: | | | Finish time | Swim Leg | Bike Leg | Run Leg | | Tony | Wallen | 01:14:25 | 00:11:01 | 00:39:38 | 00:21:54 | | David | Jobling | 01:19:59 | 00:10:14 | 00:43:49 | 00:23:58 | | Paul | Hedger | 01:24:42 | 00:12:59 | 00:43:50 | 00:25:24 | | Alex | Stuckey | 01:25:49 | 00:09:44 | 00:48:48 | 00:22:16 |

EAST OF ENGLAND TRIATHLON RELAY - 11TH JULY 2010
|
|
mediumt writes "Following the success of last year's event at Gosfield Lake, East of England Triathlon are again holding this event on our doorstep.
The event is formed by teams of 3 people who will swim in relay, then cycle in relay then run in relay with the winners being the team that finish all three disciplines in the shortest time.
The slightly unusual format makes this a fun event and an ideal introduction to open water triathlon as there is no pressure at transition.
The cost of the event is £33 per team member and you will need to provide your own wetsuit, bike and helmet.
Thanks,
Tony.
If you would like to take part, please contact me using the links on the left.
