SUMMER CHAMPIONSHIP RACES

Witham Running Club holds an informal, internal championship throughout the summer season, racing all standard road distances from 5k to half marathon.

• The 5k races are measured and organised by the club as part of the regular Thursday night training sessions and, this year, will be on the last Thursday of the month between May and September.
• The remaining races are either Essex Championships, the Grange Farm Grand Prix series or races that have proved popular with club members in the past. All are certified as accurately measured. These races are held by other clubs and runners are reminded to enter in good time and to insert “Witham Running Club” in the Club/Team box. This will help in collating the results.
• There are four races at each distance and the best result for each count towards championship points. In the event that you are unable to compete in at least one of the chosen races at a particular distance, a wildcard can be used. This can be either another certified race at that distance or a marathon. Only one wildcard can be used.
• Points are awarded based on how your time compares to the world’s best times for your age. For the technically minded, an example is as follows:
• Male aged 37 runs a half marathon in 1:32:37. The age group world best is 0:59:54. His points are calculated as 0:59:54/1:32:37 x 1000 = 647.
• Male aged 51 runs a half marathon in 1:33:23. The age group world best is 1:06:26. His points are calculated as 1:06:26/1:33:23 x 1000 = 712.
